Weary Fishermen!
The BP Oil Crisis! The Gulf of Mexico. 35 miles away. 4 a.m. The BP staging area. Twice a week at 4 a.m. a group of men and women huddled together as I led them in prayer.
“Why do you come to pray with us,” asked a weary fishermen.
“I come because there is a God and He hears and answers prayer!”

“I’m about to lose my boat,” says the weary fishermen. “Would you pray for me!” I held his rough hands and did just that.
Twenty minutes later as I headed home my cell phone rang. “You don’t know me and I don’t know you. I live in California and I just watched a late night news report about the plight of the poor fishermen and their inability to pay the notes on their boats. God told me to payoff the balance on a fishermen’s boat. Can you help me with that?"
Eleven days later I handed a $20,000+ check to an astonished fishermen and his wife.

“I’m about to lose my boat,” says he.
That’s the way the ball bounces! This everyday phrase about bouncing balls is often used when someone has decided to accept the unacceptable outcome of an unpleasant situation. It’s a cliché used to explain the idea that there are some things that we cannot control and once they have happened, we have to live with the consequences – even if we don’t like the consequences.
Here’s a faith builder: Wherever you find yourself, whether it’s at the top of the mountain or in the depths of the deepest valley, God is there, and because He cares for you, you can live courageously, even if you don’t like the way the ball bounces.
So, the next time you find your courage tested to the limit, the next time you’re angry and disappointed, the next time the ball takes a bad bounce, remember this, God is as near as your next breath. And He hears and answers prayer! Play ball!
